The “Schwerin. Nice. Clean.”-campaign took place last week. 11 students and a teacher from Latvia met on sunday in beautiful spring weather with several volunteers from “NTS – Non-Traditional Sports Schwerin e. V.” at the Gorodkipark sports field on Hegelstrasse. The group was armed with the typical red garbage bags and set to work to clear the sports field of rubbish. After the work was done, they let the afternoon end with a joint Gorodki tournament and delicious German bratwurst fresh from the grill.
The students come from three different vocational schools in Daugavpils, Kuldiga and Rezekne in Latvia and are in Schwerin as part of three different ErasmusPlus funding measures. This action is just one of many initiated by the group. The people of Schwerin are happy about freshly tended green spaces and minor renovation work throughout the city.
The action “Schwerin. Beautiful. Clean.” is a wonderful example of the successful cooperation between students from Latvia and the volunteers from NTS – Non-Traditional Sports Schwerin e. V. and shows how important it is that we all pull together to protect the environment and keep our cities clean.
