It’s summer and for many young people that means the opportunity to gain new experiences and get to know other countries and cultures. That’s exactly what Alexander and Matteo from Trento, Italy, did. They took part in the ErasmusPlus project called “M.E.T.A. – Mobilità Europea, Tirocini e Apprendimento”, which was organized by the Autonomous Province of Trento and “Erasmus Partner”.
The “M.E.T.A.” project aims to give young Europeans the opportunity to gain practical experience in other countries and improve their language skills. Alexander and Matteo had the unique opportunity to complete a 4-week internship in the “Haus am Fernsehturm” of the “Netzwerk für Menschen” in Schwerin.
When they arrived, the two were warmly welcomed by their colleagues and the residents of the house. They were overwhelmed by the hospitality and warmth they were shown. They quickly realized that they would not only work here, but also make friends.
The visit of the two Italians was a special highlight for the residents of the house. With an organized “Italian morning,” Alexander and Matteo became ambassadors of their home country for the residents. They presented their hometown, their culture and their language with an impressive presentation and delighted the residents with delicious Italian food.
These shared moments of exchange and encounters were something very special for everyone involved. They promoted understanding of other cultures and brought the participants closer together. The residents of the house by the TV tower were able to gain insights into life in Italy and the two interns had the opportunity to get to know German culture and way of life.
Another important aspect of the project was improving language skills. During their internship, Alexander and Matteo had the opportunity to improve their German language skills while sharing their native language with the residents of the house. This intercultural communication allowed them to deepen their language skills in a completely different way.
The ErasmusPlus project has shown Alexander and Matteo the importance of thinking outside the box and exploring the world. Not only have they gained new professional experience, but they have also made friends and expanded their intercultural skills.
For both of them, it was an unforgettable experience that they will carry in their hearts forever. They are grateful to have been part of this project and can only recommend everyone to take part in an ErasmusPlus program. Because there is nothing more valuable than intercultural encounters and shared experiences.
